Energiia
Energiia
a publishing house within the system of the USSR State Committee on Publishing, Printing, and the Book Trade (Goskomizdat). Founded in 1932 as a science and technology publishing house for literature on energetics (Energoizdat), it was subsequently renamed Gosenergoizdat; it received its present name in 1963.
Energiia, which is located in Moscow and has a branch in Leningrad, publishes scientific and technical, trade and reference literature in such areas as heat engineering, hydraulic engineering, hydraulic power engineering, electric power engineering, and electrical engineering. Serial publications are issued on each subject; Energiia also publishes monographs that set forth the principal trends in energy development in the country, such as Energetika SSSR v 1971–1975 godakh (Energy Production and Use in the USSR, 1971–75).
The basic multivolume reference works Elektrotekhnicheskii spravochnik (Handbook on Electrical Engineering), Spravochnik po elektroustanovkam promyshlennykh predpriiatii (Handbook on Electrical Installations in Industrial Enterprises), and Teplotekhnicheskii spravochnik (Handbook on Heat Engineering) are frequently republished. Energiia also publishes Massovaia radiobiblioteka (Mass Radio Library series) and various journals, including Elektrichestvo (Electricity), founded in 1880.
In 1979, Energiia published 321 titles of books and pamphlets in runs totaling over 6.4 million copies containing more than 90.8 million printer’s sheets. In 1981 Energiia was merged with the Atomizdat publishing house and was renamed Energoizdat.
