(ko͞o-stō′), Jacques Yves 1910-1997. French underwater explorer, film producer, and author. Cousteau invented scuba equipment, structures that permit humans to live underwater for prolonged periods of time, and a small submarine known as a diving saucer. He made three feature films and several television series about marine life and later in his career became increasingly involved in biological research and marine conservation.
