Darcy-Weisbach equation

Darcy-Weisbach equation

[¦där·sē ′vīs‚bäk i‚kwā·zhən] (fluid mechanics) An equation for the loss of head due to friction hf during turbulent flow of a fluid through a duct of any shape; in the case of a circular pipe, hf = f (L/d)(V 2/2 g), where L and d are the length and diameter of the pipe, V is the fluid velocity, g the acceleration of gravity, and f a dimensionless number called Darcy number 1.
