choroidal neovascular membrane
choroidal neovascular membrane (CNV) A sheet of proliferating tiny new blood vessels from the CHOROID that pushes forward through breaks in BRUCH'S MEMBRANE to lie immediately under the RETINA. It then leaks fluid which pools under, and elevates, the retina locally causing visual loss. This is the mechanism underlying AGE-RELATED MACULAR DEGENERATION.AcronymsSeeCNVM |
