Course System of Instruction
Course System of Instruction
a system based upon a strictly planned learning process with all academic disciplines, study, and work-practice organized by courses, study years, and semesters. The course system requires all students to attend all lessons and at the end of each semester to take examinations, at strictly specified times, in the disciplines that were studied during the given semester.
The course system of instruction is applied in all day and evening higher and secondary specialized educational institutions (departments and divisions) of the USSR. It permits planning the training of specialists in accord with the requirements of the economy and culture of the state. Also, graduates can be assigned to their future jobs at least a year before graduation. In other countries, the course system of instruction is supplemented by the subject-course system (a combination of required and elective subjects) in higher and secondary specialized educational institutions.
