audio tagging

audio tagging

Audio tagging refers to updating the meta-data fields in MP3 and other compressed audio files. An audio tag editor is used to correct the meta-data in individual files or to apply a category to a group of files. The tag editor may also use music databases to correct erroneous meta-data. Access is accomplished by file name as well as from an acoustic fingerprint of its waveforms matched against a waveform database. Contrast with video tagging. See music file identification, acoustic fingerprint, ID3 tags and music search.
