The term “bacilli carrier state” is frequently applied to the carrier state of all kinds of infections (viruses—virus carrier state, protozoans—parasite carrier state, and so on), although it is more properly used only for the carrier state of bacilli, such as Löffler’s bacillus (the causative agent of diphtheria) or Eberth’s bacillus (the causative agent of typhoid).
