Dannecker, Johann Heinrich von

(yō`hän hīn`rĭkh fən dän`ĕkər), 1758–1841, German sculptor. He studied with Pajou in Paris and with Canova in Rome. His art shows a revival of classical influence, as well as moderate naturalism. Among his statues are Sappho, Psyche, and Ariadne on a Panther. He made busts of many noted contemporaries, including Metternich and Schiller.
