[ik′span·shən ‚bəs] (computer science) The wiring and protocols that connect a computer's motherboard with the peripheral devices.

expansion bus

An input/output pathway from the CPU to peripheral devices. An expansion bus typically comprises a series of slots on the motherboard into which cards are inserted.
