Bol’shaia Liakhvi

 

a river in Georgian SSR; a left tributary of the Kura River. The Bol’shaia Liakhvi is 115 km long and drains a basin of 2,311 sq km. It rises from glaciers on the southern slopes of the Greater Caucasus and flowing in a gorge with many rapids. It is used for floating logs. The town of Tskhinvali is situated on the river, and the town of Gori is located at its confluence with the Kura.
