Bolnisi

a city (until Dec. 31, 1967, a settlement) and administrative center of Bolnisi Raion, in the Georgian SSR, on the Mashavera River (Kura Basin). Railroad station on a branch from Marneuli (on the Tbilisi-Leninakan line). Population, 16,300 (1968). Bolnisi has a winery, a vegetable cannery, a creamery, and building-materials enterprises. There is an agricultural technicum and a museum of local lore. The Madneuli polymetallic ore deposits are located nearby.
