A term of art which, as used in the context of safeguarding children in the UK, refers to a person (doctor or nurse) who takes a strategic professional lead on all aspects of the health service contribution to safeguarding children across the entire primary care trust (PCT) area, including all providers.Designated persons provide advice and support to the named persons in each trust, and play a key role in promoting, influencing and developing relevant training to ensure the training needs of health staff are addressed. They also provide skilled professional involvement in child safeguarding processes and serious case reviews.
