Common Jellyfish

 

(Aurelia aurita), an invertebrate of the class Scyphozoa of the coelenterate type. The body is transparent and colorless, of a gelatinous consistency, of umbrellalike shape, and up to 40 cm in diameter. The mouth is located on the lower concave side of the body and is bordered by four large lobes. Along the edge of the body, there are numerous small tentacles and eight balance organs. In the body there are visible a cruciform stomach, the radial gastral canals, which are partially branched, and four purple crescent-shaped gonads. The common jellyfish is found in the Barents, White, and Black seas, as well as in the Pacific and Atlantic oceans along the coasts of Europe and Asia.
