Balmer continuum

[¦bäl·mər kən′tin·yə·wəm] (spectroscopy) A continuous range of wavelengths (or wave numbers or frequencies) in the spectrum of hydrogen at wavelengths less than the Balmer limit, resulting from transitions between states with principal quantum number n = 2 and states in which the single electron is freed from the atom.
