Bodnarskii, Bogdan Stepanovich

 

Born June 23 (July 5), 1874, in Radzivilov, Volyn’ Province; died Nov. 24, 1968, in Moscow. Soviet bibliographer. Honored Scientist of the RSFSR (1945); doctor of pedagogical sciences (1943); professor (1921).

Bodnarskii became a member of the Russian Bibliographical Society attached to Moscow University in 1909; he became its secretary in 1910, and from 1920 to 1929 was the society’s president. During 1913–29, Bodnarskii was permanent editor of the society’s journal, Bibliograficheskie izvestiia. In 1920–21 he was the first director of the Russian Central (now All-Union) Book Chamber. From 1940 to 1956 he was a professor at the Moscow Library Institute. Bodnarskii’s principal work, A Bibliography of Russian Bibliography (containing lists first published in the journal Bibliograficheskie izvestiia, then issued separately), contains a survey of Russian bibliographical literature from 1913 through 1925 (vols. 1–3, 1918, 1923, 1926) and for 1929 (vol. 4, 1930). Bodnarskii was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor.
