Exothermic ReactionExothermic Reactiona chemical reaction in which heat is given off. Examples of exothermic reactions are combustion, neutralization, and most of the reactions involving the formation of chemical compounds from elements. The amount of heat liberated during an exothermic reaction depends on the type of reaction, the mass and nature of the reagents, the phase of the products and reactants, and the specific conditions under which the reaction occurs (for instance, temperature and pressure). The heat of reaction of an exothermic reaction is equal in absolute value but opposite in sign to that of the corresponding endothermic reaction. exothermic reaction
