Bogaevskii, Konstantin Fedorovich

Born Jan. 12 (24), 1872, in Feodosiia; died there Feb. 17, 1943. Soviet landscape painter. Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1933).

Bogaevskii studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts (1891–97) under A. I. Kuindzhi. From 1900 he worked in Feodosiia. He was a member of the World of Art, Union of Russian Artists, and Fire-Light groups. In the prerevolutionary period he painted mostly scenes of Eastern Crimea, stylizing them in the spirit of A. Mantegna and the classical landscapes of the 17th century. During the Soviet period he completed a number of industrial landscapes of a decorative character. Bogaevskii’s works include Tauridean Landscape (1907, Art Museum of the Latvian SSR, Riga), Memories of Mantegna (1910), Morning (tempera, 1910), and Dneprostroi (1930)—the last three are in the Tret’iakov Gallery.
