Antonov, Ivan

Antonov, Ivan Zakharovich

 

Born Jan. 18, 1919, in the village of Sigachi, now in Pervomaiskii Raion, Chuvash ASSR; died Nov. 1, 1960, in Saransk. Soviet Mordovian writer. Member of the CPSU from 1942.

Antonov wrote in Mordovian and Russian, and his first works were published in 1936. He fought in the Great Patriotic War. In 1954 he published the novel In a United Family, a work about the friendship of Soviet peoples during the war years; this was followed by the sketches Bumps on the Road (1954) and Flood on the Alatyr’ River (1955) and other works. He was awarded two orders and various medals.
