Established: Authorized on August 7, 1961; established on June 1, 1966.
Location:Within the 40-mile-long section between Chatham and Provincetown, Cape Cod. From Boston area, take Route 3 south to the Sagamore Bridge in Bourne. Follow US 6 eastward to Eastham and Provincetown. From Providence, RI, take I-95 north to I-195. Follow US 6 eastward.
Facilities:Six swimming beaches, picnic area, backcountry use permits, rest rooms (é), lodging, restaurant/snacks, off-road vehicle trail, bicycle trail, bathhouse, visitor centers (é), museum/exhibit, 11 self-guided nature trails. Entrance fee required.
Activities:Hiking, bicycling, horseback riding, swimming, fishing, hunting, ranger-guided tours.
Special Features:Ocean beaches, dunes, woodlands, freshwater ponds, and marshes make up this park on outer Cape Cod. A variety of historic structures are located within its boundaries, including lighthouses, a lifesaving station, numerous Cape Cod style houses, and Marconi's Wireless Station site.
