Fi·la·tov-Dukes dis·ease (fē'lah-tof dūks), an exanthem-producing infectious childhood disease of unknown etiology. Synonym(s): Filatov disease, fourth disease, parascarlatina, scarlatinella, scarlatinoid (2) fourth diseaseA rash first described in childhood and described by Clement Dukes in 1894. It followed the description of measles (first disease), scarlet fever (second disease), rubella (third disease), and preceded the description of fifth disease (erythyma infectiosum, or “ infectiosum contagiosum, ” as he called it). Its existence is controversial. Some authorities believe fourth disease to be a variant of rubella whereas others believe it either to be a nonexistent disease, or a rash caused by Staphylococcus aureus. Synonym: Dukes disease.
