Bell, Chester (Gordon)

(1934– ) computer engineer; born in Kirksville, Mo. He began at Digital Equipment Corporation in Maynard, Mass., in 1960, where he worked on the PDP series of computers and became a leading expert in minicomputers. He was professor of computer science at Carnegie-Mellon (1966–72), returning to Digital (1972–83) to oversee the production of VAX.
