Council of the Pioneer Organization

Council of the Pioneer Organization

an organizational and methodological center for educational work with Pioneers and Little Octobrists. The councils were established by a decree of the eighth plenum of the Central Committee of the All-Union Lenin Communist Youth League (Komsomol) in 1957. Staffed by volunteers from corresponding Komsomol committees, they include the Central Council of the V. I. Lenin All-Union Pioneer Organization, as well as republic, krai, oblast, city, and raion councils. The councils consist of staff workers from the Pioneer and Komsomol organizations, teachers, and representatives of social organizations, public-health agencies, cultural societies, and other institutions.

The councils direct the day-to-day activities of the Pioneer brigades. They also provide Pioneer leaders with training and skills (working in collaboration with organs of public education), as well as methods to assist in their work. The councils also publicize the best examples of Pioneer work. Similar councils have also been established in the Pioneer organizations of other socialist countries.
