Belkin, Samuel

(1911–76) rabbi, educator; born in Swislicz, Poland. He came to the U.S.A. in 1929. Named a professor at Yeshiva University (New York City) in 1940, he became its president in 1940 and chancellor in 1975. He became dean of Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary in 1941. He was a member of a number of academic and Jewish organizations including the American Academy of Political and Social Science and the Union of Orthodox Rabbis of the U.S.A. and Canada.
