descendens hypoglossi su·pe·ri·or root of ansa cervicalis [TA] the fibers that arise from the first and second cervical nerves, accompany the hypoglossal nerve, then branch off to meet the inferior root in the ansa cervicalis; they innervate the infrahyoid muscles.
