Ch’inhuangtao

 

a city in North China, in Hopeh Province. Population, 400,000 (1970). Ch’inhuangtao’s ice-free harbor on the Gulf of Liaotung of the Yellow Sea is used primarily for shipping coal and, since the 1970’s, oil. The city is a transportation center on the Tientsin-Mukden railroad line. Industry includes the production of iron, steel, chemicals, and cement. Other industries are machine building and glass manufacture; China’s largest glass factory, the Yaohua, is located in Ch’inhuangtao.
