Desaguadero

(dāsägwäthā`rō), river, c.200 mi (320 km) long, flowing SE from Lake Titicaca to Lake Poopó, W Bolivia. It is used for irrigation in its northern course. Its flow diminishes toward the south and its banks become less densely populated.

Desaguadero

 

a river in Bolivia, on the Puna plateau. Length , 290 km. It rises in Lake Titicaca at an elevation of 3,812 m, flows through the bed of an ancient lake, and empties into the saline Lake Poopó (at an elevation of 3,690 m). In its lower course the river is saline. It is navigable by shallow-draft vessels for a distance of 65 km in its upper course.
