ferromolybdenum (ˌfɛrəʊmɒˈlɪbdɪnəm) n (Metallurgy) an alloy of iron and molybdenum used in making alloy steelsFerromolybdenum
ferromolybdenum[¦fe·rō·mə′lib·də·nəm] (metallurgy) A molybdenum-iron alloy produced in the electric furnace or by a thermite process; used to introduce molybdenum into iron or steel alloys, and as a coating material on welding rods. Ferromolybdenum a ferroalloy containing approximately 60 percent molybdenum, the remainder consisting of Fe and impurities. Ferromolybdenum is produced by the nonfurnace silicothermic process, here involving the addition of aluminum from roasted molybdenite concentrate. It is used in the smelting of structural steel and heat-resistant alloys. |
