BN object BN object short for Becklin-Neugebauer object. A pointlike infrared source in the Orion molecular cloud (OMC-1). It is thought to be a young B0 or B1 star, surrounded by a compact H II region and an expanding dust envelope characterized by a strong stellar wind. The infrared luminosity of the dust is about a thousand times the Sun's luminosity at a temperature of about 600 K.
