Disinfection Chamber

apparatus for disinfection and disinsectization of clothing, bedding, and other objects. Disinfection chambers are set up at disinfection stations, public health disinfection centers, hospitals, and industrial concerns, as well as on automobiles, for mobile disinfection chambers.

Four types of disinfection chambers are differentiated depending on the type of disinfection agent: steam, dry air heat, formaldehyde vapor, and gas chambers. In steam disinfection chambers a flow of steam at temperatures of 100° C or more disinfects clothing, industrial raw material (rags, wool), and finished products (bandages, cotton wool, and the like). Dry air heat (thermal) disinfection chambers use hot air. This type of chamber is more frequently used to disinfect clothing at temperatures of 80°-105° C. In formaldehyde vapor disinfection chambers the active agent is a formaldehyde vapor mixture at temperatures of 60°-70° C. Chambers of this type are used to disinfect clothing and articles made of leather and fur. They can be equipped with showers and can be used for washing people in the field. With gas disinfection chambers (not extensively used) the active agents are gaseous chemicals, such as formaldehyde, sulfur dioxide, and carbon disulfide.
