blueberry muffin baby blue·ber·ry muf·fin ba·byan infant with purple skin lesions the appearance of which has been compared with that with a blueberry muffin. Lesions are caused by dermal erythropoiesis and are seen in congenital infections such as cytomegalovirus, toxoplasmosis, or rubella. The infection interferes with the normal production of blood cells in the bone marrow.A generalized hemorrhagic-purpuric rash characterised by multiple, raised dark blue-magenta (blueberry-like) nodules 2–7 mm in diameter corresponding to foci of erythropoiesis which regress 3–4 wks after birthblue·ber·ry muf·fin ba·by (blū'ber-ē mŭf'in bā'bē) Jaundice and purpura, especially of the face in the newborn, which may result from intrauterine viral infection. |
