[′fe‚rīt ′ī·sə‚lād·ər] (electromagnetism) A device consisting of a ferrite rod, centered on the axis of a short length of circular waveguide, located between rectangular-waveguide sections displaced 45° with respect to each other, which passes energy traveling through the waveguide in one direction while absorbing energy from the opposite direction. Also known as Faraday rotation isolator.
