Fechral
the common name for a group of iron-base heat-resistant alloys containing 8–15 percent Cr and 3.5–5.5 percent Al. Fechral combine heat resistance with high electrical resistivity (1.15–1.35 microohms-m). It has a melting point of approximately 1470°C and a density of approximately 7.3 g/cm3. Although not as heat-resistant as chromal, fechral is cheaper and has greater ductility during hot working and cold working. Fechral is produced primarily in the form of wire and ribbon and it is used primarily as a substitute for nichrome in the manufacture of resistance elements that operate at temperatures not exceeding 900°–950°C. The USSR produces fechral of grade Khl3Iu4.
