Firuz Shah Tughlak
Firuz Shah Tughlak
Ruler of the Delhi sultanate from 1351 to 1388.
Firuz Shah Tughlak made concessions to the feudal elite; for example, he declared conditional land grants hereditary and reduced taxes levied by the central treasury on the lands of the muqt’ars (wealthy feudal overlords). At the same time, he abolished a number of feudal obligations and taxes imposed on the urban population and reduced the government land tax. These reforms created favorable conditions for economic development. Historians describe the reign of Firuz Shah Tughlak as a period of great prosperity.
