Discovery DayNovember 19; December 5There are a number of different days referred to by this name, all of which relate to the voyages of Christopher Columbus. In Trinidad and Tobago, August 1 was Discovery Day, in honor of Columbus's discovery of the two islands on his third voyage to the Western Hemisphere. Since 1985, however, August 1 has been observed as Trinidad and Tobago Emancipation Day. In Haiti, Discovery Day is a legal holiday celebrated on December 5, commemorating its discovery by Columbus in 1492.
