Size: 9,860 acres.
Established: Authorized as Sulphur Springs Reservation on July 1, 1902; combined with Arbuckle National Recreation Area and redesignated March 17, 1976.
Location:On OK 177, just south of the town of Sulphur, Oklahoma; 90 miles south of Oklahoma City and 120 miles north of Dallas.
Facilities:Campgrounds (é), picnic area, rest rooms (é), boat ramp, information and nature center (é), museum/exhibit, self-guided tour/trail.
Activities:Camping, hiking, bicyling, swimming, boating, water-skiing, fishing, hunting, wildlife viewing, interpretive programs.
Special Features:Chickasaw is one of the most heavily visited parks for its size in the National Park System, with 3.4 million visitors a year. The park is named to honor the Chickasaw Indian Nation, the original occupants of this land. The Travertine Nature Center offers nature study for both organized school groups and the casual visitor. Many visitors still come to drink the water from several mineral springs.
