Location:Park encompasses portions of Georgia and Tennessee. The Chickamauga Visitor Center is located off of US 27 in Fort Oglethorpe, GA. Lookout Mountain Battlefield Visitor Center is located on East Brow Road atop Lookout Mountain, TN.
Facilities:Picnic area, rest rooms (é), 2 visitor centers (é), museum/exhibit, self-guided tour/trail. Entrance fee required.
Activities:Hiking, horseback riding, living history demonstrations, auto touring.
Special Features:In 1863, Union and Confederate forces fought for control of Chattanooga, the gateway to the deep south. A major Confederate victory on Chickamauga Creek in Georgia, September 19-20, was countered by Union victories at Orchard Knob, Lookout Mountain, and Missionary Ridge in Chattanooga, Tennessee, November 23-25. This was the first and the largest national military park established by Congress at the end of the 19th century.
