释义 | Cortissoz, RoyalCortissoz, Royal(kôrtē`sōz), 1869–1948, American critic and lecturer on art. He was the New York Herald Tribune art critic from 1891 and was noted for his lectures at the Metropolitan Museum and at other museums throughout the United States. He wrote biographies of Augustus Saint-Gaudens (1907), John La Farge (1911), and Whitelaw Reid (1921), as well as Art and Common Sense (1913), American Artists (1923), Personalities in Art (1925), and The Painter's Craft (1930).Cortissoz, Royal(1869–1948) art critic; born in Brooklyn, N.Y. He was educated locally, and worked for the architectural firm of McKim, Mead, and White. He then became the art critic for the New York Tribune (1891–1944). A classicist by training and nature, he was opposed to modernism, as seen in such publications as Art and Common Sense (1913) and American Artists (1923). |
