Cortina D’ampezzo

 

a city in Italy, in the region of Veneto. The city is located in an intermontane valley in the Dolomite Alps, on the Boite river, at an elevation of 1,200 m. It is surrounded by snow-covered mountains, including the Tofane and Monte Cristallo. Population, 7,700 (1966). Cortina d’Ampezzo is a well-known center of winter and summer sports (the site of the Seventh Winter Olympic Games in 1956), tourism, and health resorts. The local population is still engaged in traditional handicraft.
