In central OK, west of Oklahoma City; original county; organized 1890 (prior to statehood). Name Origin: For the Canadian River, which runs through it; known to the Osage as Ne-sout-che-bra-ra, probably named in honor of their homelands by French-Canadian explorers or traders.
