cortical-sparing adrenalectomy

cortical-sparing adrenalectomy

An operation on the adrenal gland(s) in which the cortex of the gland is left in place and only the diseased portion of the gland is removed. This subtotal adrenal surgery leaves the corticosteroid producing portion of the gland in place, increasing the probability that the patient will be able to produce his own steroids after the surgery.
