Fork Mounting

a parallactic telescope mounting with a polar axis terminating in a fork that carries the declination axis around which the telescope rotates. This mounting makes it possible to direct the telescope at any point in the sky. Fork mountings, which were first used in the USA (1908) for the 1.5-m reflector of the Mount Wilson Observatory, are widely used for mounting large reflectors. The 2.6-m reflector of the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory is thus mounted.
