Elbe-Havel Canal

 

a navigation canal in the German Democratic Republic, in Madgeburg and Potsdam districts. The canal links the Elbe River in its middle course, west of Burg, with the Havel River at Lake Plauer, southwest of Brandenburg; the canal continues to the network of waterways surrounding Berlin, including the Spree River, the Teltow Canal, and the Oder River. The Elbe-Havel Canal, which is 56.4 km long and 2 m deep, has three locks; it can accommodate vessels with a displacement of up to 1,000 tons.
