discordant UIP

discordant UIP

Discordant usual interstitial pneumonia. A “form” of usual interstitial pneumonia which is diagnosed based on differences in histology from multilobar surgical lung biopsies for suspected idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), where one or more biopsies has UIP and one or more biopsies has non-specific interstitial pneumonia (NSIP). Discordant UIP occurs in about one-fourth of patients with IPF, and has a survival closer to concordant UIP (i.e., less favourable) than to concordant NSIP.
