Early English architecture (1200–1250)The first English Gothic style to follow the Norman style featured moldings, consisting of rounds and deep hollows, which produced a strong effect of light and shadow. Arches were lancet-shaped; doorways were deeply recessed with numerous moldings in the arch and jambs. Windows were long, narrow, and almost always pointed. Pillars consisted of small shafts arranged around a larger central pier. |
