Camphorosma

a genus of plants of the family Chenopodiaceae. They are annual or perennial herbs and low undershrubs with alternating linear or subulate leaves and a camphoraceous odor. The tiny flowers are mostly monoecious, with a tetramerous or pentamerous perianth. The plant has four or five stamens. There are approximately ten species, distributed from the Mediterranean to Central Asia (Dzungaria). They growin solonetzic steppes, semideserts, salt marshes, takyrs, and rocky slopes. There are four species in the USSR. The most common are C. monspeliaca and C. lessingiana. Their grass stalks contain essential oils. These plants can be used as fodder for camels, goats, and sheep.
