Balloon Material

Balloon Material

flexible gas-impermeable and waterproof material used for manufacturing envelopes of dirigibles and aerostats, inflatable rafts and boats, pneumatic construction units, flexible tanks, and others. The reinforcing elements of balloon material is a fabric of natural, synthetic or artificial fibers, covered with a polymer (most often rubber) film that ensures gas- and water-impermeability. According to the number of textile layers, balloon material is classified as single-, double-, or multilayer. Depending on the disposition of the threads of the foundation (parallel to each other or at an angle of 45–60 degrees), double- and multilayer balloon material can be parallel- or diagonal-ply. The latter possesses higher resistance to rupture.
