Cherga

 

a mountain range in the northwestern Altai; drainage divide between the Peschanaia and Sema rivers. The Cherga Range is approximately 120 km long and, in the south, up to 2,009 m high. The range is composed primarily of intensively dissected mountains of medium elevation, which are made up of sandstones and shales. Forest steppes and pine forests are found on the slopes. At higher elevations, mountainous taiga featuring larch and nut pine-fir forests is encountered.
