face-discharge bit face-discharge bit[¦fās ′dis‚chärj ‚bit] (mechanical engineering) A liquid-coolant bit designed for drilling in soft formations and for use on a double-tube core barrel, the inner tube of which fits snugly into a recess cut into the inside wall of the bit directly above the inside reaming stones; the coolant flows through the bit and is ejected at the cutting face. Also known as bottom-discharge bit; face-ejection bit. |
