Blaik, Earl (Henry) “Red”

(1897–1989) football coach; born in Detroit, Mich. After coaching seven successful seasons at Dartmouth (1934–40), where he introduced tougher discipline than was customary for Ivy League teams, he went on to West Point. As Army coach (1941–58) he produced two national champions (1944–45) and 13 of his teams were ranked in the top 20 by wire service polls.
