Thyroid antibody Any antibody directed against 'self' antigens, which may be either cellular components–eg antimicrosomal antibodies or proteins–eg thyroglobulin, of thyroid origin, that are often present in autoimmune diseases; ATAs damage the thyroid and occur in 40-90% of Pts with chronic thyroiditis, Graves' disease or thyrotoxicosis, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, hypothyroidism; ATAs may also be ↑ in pernicious anemia, rheumatoid arthritis, and SLE Ref range Titers < 1:32-antithyroglobulin, and < 1:100-antimicrosomal are negative.
